From the old country to Minnesota

Minnesota’s Czechs settled the “Bohemian triangle” of Le Sueur, Rice and Scott counties — New Prague, Montgomery and Lonsdale. Montgomery calls itself the kolacky capital of the world and has celebrated Kolacky Day since 1929.

The baking came with them, and so did the evening: Christmas Eve, not Christmas morning, as the heart of the holiday.
